Periscope is a live video streaming app that Twitter acquired in 2015. The partnership allows Twitter users to live stream content from external devices, not just their android or iPhones. Users can broadcast to the public or simply to selected Twitter users for a more private experience. In February of 2014, Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Berstein started the company, originally called Bounty. Before they could even release the product, Twitter bought it. Additionally, Twitter has partnered with companies like the NFL to live stream their events and was used by House Democrats in 2016 to broadcast a sit in on the House Floor protesting a gun control bill.
