Dogs in Prisons: Innovating Change

The Film, “Prison Dogs” (2016) follows the program that is being implemented in multiple prisons around the world. I have not seen this film yet, but I certainly plan on it after seeing this trailer, and hearing testimonies from the inmates of other prisons with dogs:

This program allows inmates to train puppies to become therapy dogs for People suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. These puppies would otherwise most likely be put down. It is a truly beautiful program designed to give a second chance not only to the dogs, but also to the inmates, psychologically. Many have spoken about how they feel they have contributed to someone’s life, and how they feel they can change because of that.

There are countless youtube videos with footage of programs like this one. Here is an example, with a testimonial given by an inmate:

As a lover of dogs and cats alike, this project is especially heartwarming to me personally. I can only imagine the impact it has had on the character and empathy of prisoners around the world. Whoever was the first to think of this idea was certainly of the greatest of social entrepreneurs.

Thanks,

Daphne
